Press release from Stop GM Seeds Network Japan 2001-05-31
We do not want "LibertyLink" as Aventis puts
it.
We strongly oppose against Aventis
CropScience Japan's application of LibertyLink rice to Our
Government of Japan since no one wants it and is immoral.
It is inconceivable for any person with reason that Aventis
CropScience should dare apply for their glufosinate resistant
Rice when their StarLink problem continue to pose threat to our
health and environment with further findings of contamination.
Aventis is taking a liberty of Japan's economic policy and link
their corporate egocentrism to gain profit out of such unwanted
garbage as StarLink corn and LL rice.
As it is immoral and beneath humanity, we strongly urge Japanese
Ministries to decline and Aventis to withdraw such application of
the LL rice that was dumped by thousands of tons for want of EPA
approval in the US.
While Japan has no properly established test method of health
assessment for GM crops, which is currently done by reviewing
falsely translated version of application and less than
satisfactory animal feed test as revealed by Dr.Kawata and
consumer groups for Roundup Ready soybean, it is most likely that
we would be victimised as guinea pigs at best if approved as was
the case for MONSANTO RR soybean.
To accept this rice in exchange of export of industrial goods
would mean a further discouragement to our rice growers and a
higher risk of starvation when US grain production collapsed in
the foreseeable future.
We are committed to stop stupidity being forced on us.
